Biography

Lynn McLean (MacDonald) has been giving lessons in the Alexander Technique since qualifying in 1991. She’s registered with the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique www.stat.org.uk:

‘Discovering the Technique as a student at Glasgow University in 1984, the revelation that coordination and balance could be changed by recognising deep-seated habits encouraged me to continue with the lessons, later finding that thinking/psychological patterns were linked with my physical self. I was fortunate to work with several very different but equally inspiring teachers in Glasgow before relocating to the training course in Devon in 1988.

Following the three-year training I returned to Glasgow and developed a practice in central Glasgow, working with individuals and small groups. Glasgow University’s Adult and Continuing Education department offered me the opportunity to continue running their long standing introductory courses in the Technique.

In 1992 I was invited to work with students at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where I continue giving Alexander lessons to young performers.

Talks, workshops and group courses with other agencies followed including: University of Strathclyde, Stirling University, Scottish Enterprise, NHS, Scottish Enterprise, Passport Agency, Glasgow City Council.

As well as Alexander teaching I’ve had extensive and varied yoga training and worked for many years in South Devon and Glasgow as a professional ITF Taekwondo instructor.

In 2006 I relocated to the island of Islay in the Inner Hebrides – we spent the first year converting an old church building on the south west tip of the island, and since then I’ve divided my time between Islay and Glasgow.

Recently I’ve taken up a part-time post working with Comunn na Gaidhlig – www.cnag.org.uk – developing the Iomairt Ile ’s Dhiura (Islay and Jura Gaelic Initiative). ’
